[bug] Website: special chars not displaying well

Posted: Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:31 pm

On some of the pages, you might see special characters not displaying correctly.
For example, on this page: http://jkgalaxies.com/index.php?site=ne ... &newsID=42 apostrophes are displaying as ’ to me.

How to fix this bug:
Spoiler: show
This is a charset problem.
Just add
Code: Select all
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
in the <head> section of the html pages. (replace utf-8 with the charset corresponding to your database, of course)

On a related note, you should make sure the generated html code is valid (at the moment, it isn't).

Thanks for posting about the characters, will look into this for you.

Regarding site validation with W3C, it's un-necessary. Fixing all of those supposed 'errors' will not actually improve the site's functionality, it could infact hinder it in some cases, which is why most websites ignore W3C validation. For example, here is the validation page for the Star Wars website.
